The Netherlands developed a Dutch trade empire, by which it dominated the world. The success of the Dutch Trade Empire influenced the Dutch language, because the Dutch language became the international language of trade, thus it was spoken in various parts of the world. The colonial power of the Netherlands quickly increased, by which the amount of speakers of the Dutch language increased a lot. The letters that man used for the Dutch language became more standardised in the golden age. However
when the decay of the Dutch trade empire began, the Dutch language decayed with it. From the nineteenth century (1800 AD) the Dutch language developed again, when europe industrialised. In the nineteenth century the power of the monarchy (het koningsrijk) decreased, and the rise of decomacy (het volksrijk) began. The rise of the democracy meant the abolishment of Modern Dutch in 1950. Modern Dutch survived however up to nowadays, but it is not socially accepted by many to speak it in public, thus man continues to use it in secret, as happens with many languages, or dialects, when they are no longer socially accepted. The most well known variant of current Modern Dutch is the southern dialect of Limburg. |
