¿Has tenido que llamar en alguna ocasión a los servicios de emergencia? ¿Por qué?

Nunca en mi vida he tenido que llamar a los Servicios de Emergencia. Si tuviera que llamar yo llame al 999 y si fue por un accidente en tierra yo diría que necesito una ambulancia. si se tratara de un problema en el mar, yo diría 'guardacostas, por favor .. Si se tratara de un incendio Yo diría ' El servicio contra incendios por favor "y si fuera por un crimen que podría decir " la Policía, por favor' es importante si se llama los sevicios emergencia solamente si hay un problema real. y cuado hablas con los servicios que mantena ( que mantener?) la calme y a decir exactamente que problema hay.(que problema existe?)

Si se tratara de un incendio Yo diría ' El servicio contra incendios (or "bomberos") por favor "y si fuera por un crimen que podría decir " la Policía, por favor' es importante si se llama a los sevicios de emergencia que sea solamente si hay un problema real y cuado hablas con los servicios que mantena ( que mantener?) manten la calmea y a decir dí exactamente que problema hay.(que problema existe?) There is very important to inform to person on watch at the emergency service calmly, speaking easy easy and as soon as you inform about what's happening, to wait for their questions!

Yeah, a lot of times the worst part of my job is to receive an emergency call and only be able to understand what's happening partially because of person who call me is really stressed!

It's worst when that person is speaking English.... worst if that person speak English but he/she is not a native English speaker... and the worst of the worst is when this person is at sea and understand that his/her only chance to receive any help is throughout me!

When a person in distress call me I used to close my eyes, to keep a pencil in my hand and a piece of paper in front of me and to write as much as I can without to look out this paper, as soon as this person stop, I read it and I start to ask as much as I can, doing same questions in different ways "can you see any ship on your radar?" and later "Is your radar switching on?" and somethings like that. I'm not trying to confuse him, but because ofter he's already confused, in this way I can be sure about which facts are reals and which ones are suppositions! (If he answer me: "No, there is not any ship in my radar" and later his answer is "My radar is not working" I never say: "Hey! but you told me that....", not at all.... I only write in my paper: His radar is not working)

Another example is this one: I only ask "Do you see any light?... yes? ok... which colour is it?" but never "Can you see any blue/red/green light" in order to avoid any misundersanding, why? because is easier to have a confusion about any colour than about if there is any ligth or not. The worst information is the wrong information!

I need to keep this person on phone as much as I can, asking and asking.... while I'm talking with the affected, I'm moving my hands asking to my partner things as "call to the heavy helicopter" or "call to the high speed craft positioned in..."

If later I have doubts about this call, I can hear our conversation because all our calls by phone and by radio are being recording continuously in mp3 format.

Few months ago, being on watch, We received a phone call from MRCC Belfast and the OOW there told us: "Hey, I received this radio-call from a ship in distress.... it's in Spanish and I cannot understand anything". He passed us a mp3 recording audio, we translated this audio by phone into English to him, and because of that, eleven Spanish sailors were recued by the best Maritime Search and Rescue organization around the globe: the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency!
