Easter

Of course we celebrate Easter in my country. Easter is a huge holiday in Bulgaria. Christmas and Easter are two of very important feasts for us.We celebrate over three days. Before Easter is the Holy Week and the Lent. In my country we have forty days of preparation period before Easter. I fast only in the week leading up to Easter. Before to writing about how we celebrate Easter I would like to write about one of our nice and colourful holidays, Cvetnica.

Cvetnica is a Christian festival celebrated one week prior to Easter, on the Sunday after St. Lazarus. It is also called Willow's Sunday. Cvetnica is the Feast of the coming of spring and all things bearing the names of plants and flowers. People take willow twigs from church and carry them to their homes for health. According to the Bulgarian traditions we hang a gate (?wreath) of plaited chaplets.  I'm not sure what you mean by "gate" in the last sentence.

So now I shall write about Easter. I like this holiday because I have my name day as well. In my country we decorate eggs on Holy Thursday or Easter Saturday. In my home we paint the eggs on Easter Saturday. The first egg is always coloured (dyed? painted?) in red and while it is still warm we make a circle around our face for health. My father boils the eggs and me and my mother and I decorate them. For extra decoration we use sprigs of parsley, coloured pencil or wax. I use cotton to make multicoloured eggs. At midnight on Easter Saturday on Sunday when Easter comes we knocking the eggs together and say to each other, "Xristos Voskrese” then “ Vo istina Voskrese”. In my country we have it is the traditional to make a special sweet bread which we called Easter cake. We have Easter lunch with roast lamb and green salad. It is a very nice to have holidays where people celebrate together.
