I spend the main part of my life working and holidays are an essential break for me. That is why I always choose very carefully the places where I go and the hotels where I stay to avoid unpleasant surprises. Until now, I have never had such a bad experience that it may have ruined my holiday. I thoroughly enjoyed all the places where I have gone. However, I had a very bad summer holiday the year when I separated from my first husband. I spent two weeks in the south of France, with my son who was then 5 years old. It could have been perfect holiday: lovely weather, beautiful scenery, plenty to see and do… but I was unable to appreciate it because my son kept on asking me every day when his dad would come back to us and it made me feel sad and guilty.

I hope things are better now with you and your son :-)

Nothing wrong with the phrasal verb  "kept on", just less colloquial without it.
