Hmm..What society d'you mean? If Russian and Ukrainian, I agree. Here it's mostly considered absurdity, even wildness. But in America they are quite normal things to do.

Actually, I am talking about Slavs here...

But I saw a very serious attitude towards this aspect in the USA and Canada.

By "they" do you mean the first or the last statement? :-)

Well, I agree with Americans:) My group-mate asked me once: "Isn't the contract a sign, that you don't believe your sweetheart?" Why? I gladly believe him. But life is life and I just remember that we often take a warrant even for 100 dollars and I think that my nerves and safety cost much more than 100 dollars, so why can't I get some kind of warrant - the contract?

Yes, Mary, you are very wise and far-sighted! I completely share your viewpoint. Unfortunately, I was forced sometimes to act differently in my life. And I quite regret it...

It was very kind of you, Gregor, to tell it, thanks. But I just try to learn from other's mistakes, 'cause they never hurt so much as your own. I helped one of my friends to get a divorce through the court, so I know how long that hassle was. I don't want to get it over too.

Wow, Mary, you will become an excellent lawyer! You possess a unique combination of personality traits. It seems to me that you have refined very well your sense of self-control. It is not a Slavic peculiarity. Does your genealogical tree have "roots" in other nations? Sorry, but it is very interesting. Thank you.

Actually not. I think I'm a pure blood Ukrainian, however my grandma was from Kursk, but it is an ethnic Ukrainian territory (Слобожанщина). Maybe I have some european roots, but I don't know about them. Maybe I was born somewhere in Europe in my previous life :) But I just think that it was my father, who formed my way of thinking, he tried to foster in me european outlook, traditions, for example music. The music of my childhood, for instance, was The Beatles, Queen, Scorpions, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Sting, Backstreet Boys, N'Sink and other western music of that time. And I still prefer western music and most of Russian and Ukrainian ones I don't listen. I'm the only from my friends who has learned English since I were 6. So I consider myself a European:) But of course I love my Motherland too.

Dear Mary, thank you for the response to my question. May I also inquire about why you chose to study in such small town in Ukraine? Do you obtain your education in a branch of some famous university?
