yeah, you're correct. I also hear that "эта собака чёрная" translates as 'this is a black dog' and "эта собака чёрна" translates as 'this is the black dog.' Can anyone confirm this?

For example "I have a pen" - У меня есть ручка
but "I have an angina" - У меня ангина
Jakeджейк (22)
ok, so if I would say "This is a black dog" would I say "Это чёрная собака" или "Эта собака чёрная."
Lino4ka_18 (20)
No matter. Both variants are correct

Thanks.

Yes, but do they mean the same?
I think the first one is like "this is a black dog" "Это чёрная собака", and the second "this dog is black" "Эта собака чёрная", but I am not sure

У меня есть (кто? что?) - именительный падеж.
У меня есть + NOM.
For example: У меня есть (кто?) собака. (Именительный падеж, Nominative)
У меня есть (что?) учебник. (Именительный падеж, Nominative)

ok, have a question , please help me cause it is driving me crazy!
so:
I have 2 grammar books for russian.
One says:
- first declination: names which end with consonant or -o or -e
-the other book says that :
-first declination is further divided in two categories
the first category fo r names ending with consonant
the second category for names ending with b and й
so, which is right??????

1 declination - nouns (f and m gender) which end with -a,-я
2 declination - nouns (n gender) which end with -o, -е. and also nouns (m gender) without ending
3 declination - nouns (f gender) which end with -ь
