On general, we take it on TV or radio. When Japan Meteorological Agency(maybe) catch the foretaste or actual date of earthquake or something, they let us know as the breaking report.

 Hi !

I beg you pardon me for not talking in Japanese ("gomenasai" !), though I consider it a fascinating culture.

Some days ago I read an article about a phenomenon called "hikikomori" that seemed to me quite preocupating : some kind of social isolation. So, I just want to ask if somebody knows a bit more about it concerning its own country and, if wether or not it is growing in your society ?

By the way, I'm from Barcelona (Spain). Where are you from ?

Thanks in any case !

(sorry for republishing it, I've just noticed there's a section for japanese culture !)

I wanted to ask you, or whoever, for some books. After hearing a speech held by Mr.Haruki Murakami, I wanted to read about his work. But in fact, I am looking for (non-fictional in preference) books that describe Japan culture, but I don't really know any japan author apart from him! So, do you have any particular recommendation? (I don't pretend to read the entire Japanese literature, at least not by now!)

Thanks in any case.

I don't like his way of write but he is loved all over the world, it's true. I recmmend you another Murakami, Ryu Murakami. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ry%C5%AB_Murakami  If you read "Sopa de Miso", you'll know how today's Japan is. His works are sociologic and my Russian friend says he is today's Dostoevskiy.

Or, I preffer Yukio Mishima. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukio_Mishima  His writing is really ethetic and difficult but it has worth to understand. There are many misunderstand about him but he is exactly one of the best writer in the world. "The temple of golden pavilion" is based on the actual incident and I think this is the best of his. It's not long novel, just rey to read it.
