In the first picture I can see a flat. Flats usually aren't as expensive as houses but they are less popular, because you don't have your own garden or a garage near your house. In the second picture I can see a loft. It's a bit unusual housing, but it is very spacious and bright and with high ceilings. It is probably hard to warm such a house in winter. Temporary housing is the cheapest and the least comfortable. But if you don't have enough money to buy your own house or flat, this is a good alternative.
