Bahrain Desert Birds - Planet Earth - BBC

In the Gulf on the coast of Bahrain, 100,000 Socotra Cormorants are settling down to nest. In the intense heat, the only nutrition to be had comes from the wind blowing in from the ocean, making the barren wasteland a fertile place to raise their young. Normally nobody would suppose that seabirds breed and raise their chicks in the hot desert sand of Bahrain. But this video shows that every year a hundred thousand of Socotra Cormorants choose their breeding place just here. There is only bare hot sand and the warm shallow sea beyond. And the chicks have to breathe vigorously to prevent them from fatal overheating. But these inhospitable surroundings are well chosen, because sand whipped up by off shore winds blows into the sea of the Iranian Gulf. With the grains come nutrients which act as fertilizer transforming the shallow sea into a rich fishing ground.
I like these videos about wildlife animals. While watching them I can train my listening comprehension and learn many interesting things.

Another very good piece of work.

Only one "teensy weensy" mistake Ellen :)

Well done

Very well done on the listening comprehension, Ellen.

It´s the first time since the middle of April that I have a little time on Busuu.
