String instruments: the guitar, the cello, the harp. I can play the piano, but I'd like to be able to play the guitar as well. It produces wonderful sounds and you can sing together with your friends any song you want. |

Ну почему именно определенный артикль? Почему бы не сказать a trumpet = труба, одна из многих. Употребив the вы хотите сказать, что эта труба какая-то особенная, именно эта, которую ни с чем не спутаешь. |

Так уж принято в английском языке употреблять названия музыкальных инструментов с определенным артиклем. Но если Вам принципиально, то, конечно, используйте "a", Ваше дело. И Вас, и меня поймут. |

Wind instruments: the trumpet, the saxophone, the trombone. Nicely written. Well done! You are quite correct to use "the" here. I play the piano. I love the oboe. (i.e., the concept, the art, the skill).
You would use "a" only when referring to a particular instrument (although not yet defined).
Even here, once a particular instrument has been defined, you would use "the" (or "that", "this", "my", etc.)
Someone has left an old piano in the garden. Our new neighbour likes to play the violin. Sometimes I see her sitting in the garden hunched over an old violin. I can see a trumpet in that painting.
