What are weddings like in your country?

In Russia the wedding ceremony starts in the bride's house. The groom and the bride go to the civil and religious ceremonies, then there is the reception. There are a lot of relatives and friends. However it depends on the couple. Sometimes the bride and the groom want to celebrate this event without any guests.

we never write or say - Groom and bride in english (It's an unwritten law)

It's always bride and groom..... out of politeness to women :O)

And yet... by the same unwritten rule, we say "husband and wife" not "wife and husband"!

So it seems we are only polite to the women on their wedding day :)
