According to the generally accepted theory the universe was created in the big bang about 14 Gyr ago. It is made up mostly of hydrogen and helium. The sun and our solar system formed about 9 Gyr later. The sun is a rather typical G star with a temperatur of 5800 K.
The large scale geometry of the universe is flat (that's why you had to learn at school that the sum of all angles in a triangle is 180 degrees ;-), whereas there are points in space (so called black holes) where the curvature exceeds all limits. The gravity of these objects is so strong, that nothing, not even light, is able to escape from them. That's why we can detect them only indirectly through their gravitational attraction.

Wunderbar!  (Most people won't recognize "Gyr" so I suggested a change.)
