A few days ago, on the 28th of July our country along with Belarus and Ukraine celebrated the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus when Prince Vladimir the Great converted our country to Christianity. On that day, so many centuries ago, Holy Prince Vladimir, equal-to-the-Apostles, took a very important decision that predominated the entire history of our country. After considering other faiths, he chose to take the Christianity from the Greeks. He received the Holy baptism himself and told all the citizens of Kiev to come to the river Dnieper on a certain day to get baptized. Gradually all pagan idols were destroyed and the new faith was brought to other cities of the Holy Rus. Since that time, our country and the Russian Orthodox church came across many tribulations in their history. The faith was what has always saved our country in the most difficult times. Even in the period of oblivion, when any religion was abandoned on the territory of Russia, the Christianity was secretly professed. In the modern world, it's not so easy to keep to the Christian values but there is a strong belief that only spiritual values can help us save this world and keep our national identity.
