A lot of publishers offer plenty of teaching books for language learning in courses or autodidactic learning. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they have a bunch of lacks, often the quality of one publisher's books sways from one language to the other.
Texts for autodidactic language learning must be chosen according the purposes of the learners, I mean ESP texts; but if someone wants to learn general English I would recommend him or her to start by susbcribing a course to have a good guide and organization. We teachers can see the quality of books, the students don't know how to choose, they only need to practice and increase their time practicing the new language.
I can definitley recommend to use monolingual teaching books - I know that this is hard, especially for beginners, but in my experience this is the only right choice to make. I can garantee that it is worth the effort, because this way there are no translation errors or explanation problems. The biggest problem is to explain something in a language in which the thing you want to explain does not exist - so again, I highly recommend monolingual books :-)
for beginners is very difficult, but helpful to lern new word..I try to read and to understand the text meaning and than i write the word that i don´t know and later ilook again to fix them..
I think the monolingual books written in many series from beginner level to advanced levels are very usefull.I do not advice learning by grammer books, ı hate such books.. I think authers should publish the books in many series, and the lessons should be given in the many various ways like reading, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammer, games , tests, puzzles, sections. So that the learners will be able to learn many words and different usefull knowladge of the culture and the country.. The more joyful, the easier to learn a language. So I hink thje best books are written in varied parts, in varied series and by a team of authers.

The best is reading a book in another language, without any translation. The beginning will be hard, but you'll see progress very soon ! Believe me !

You have already known at least one language (your own). Why shouldn't you use the knowing when you learn another language?
