hello. my name is candi and i am taking a communication class. i saw this video of a german coast guard at his post and a call came in to him that was in english. as it looked the CG did not understand english that well. the call that came in and said may day, may day we are sinking. the CG thought he said thinking so he asked what are you thinking? i wanted to know how the word thinking is said and is the th silent. i looked up the word think and it said denken. is that correct? also can you tell me how you say sinking is german. thanks for your help.
German-speakers often mistake [θ] for [s] and [ð] for [z], because the interdental fricatives ('th'-sounds) don't exist in German. They therefore substitute the alveolars.

You are correct, Denken means thinking or to think.
