I recommend the books of Penguin Readers and Oxford Bookworms. I have read "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Mutiny on the Bounty" (Oxford Bookworms, stage 1), and "The missing coins" (Penguin Readers, beginner). The Oxford stage one's books are harder than beginner's Penguin Readers. Actually, I am reading "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea" (Penguin Readers, beginner) by Jules Verne. In my opinion, the latter is a very interesting book.
I bought 'Twenty thousand leagues under the sea with CD but I didn't begin to read. I have just finished 'The Young King and other stories' by O. Wilde. (Longman Classics Stage 3). I enjoyed the book.
"Mutiny on the Bounty" talking about of a mutiny on the english ship "HMS Bounty" which is produced in the Pacific Ocean, and adventures after the mutiny is made. Also talk of the life in Pacific Islands, like Tahiti, and its inhabitants.
The book 84 Charing Cross Road by Helen Hanff is one of my favourite books. The book contains letters between the author and Frank Doel an antiquarian bookseller in London. Helen Hanff who lived in New York regularly bought classic books which she wasn't able to find in NY, in London. For twenty years she exchanged letters with Frank Doel and a long-distance friendship evolved. Also the other employees in the book shop in London got involved . As there was a food shortage in London after World War II, Helene Hanff decided to send parcels to her friends. The story takes place between 1949 and 1969.
I read the book in English. The book is easy to read , not least because the letters are always short. I enjoyed reading the book. It is witty and also conveyed contemporary history. I can highly recommend the book

"Animal farm", George Orwell.. It's shorter than "1984", that however is Orwell's best novel in my opinion

Indeed...
Animal farm is shorter, but 1984 is better!
