We don't have such a mnemonic in Dutch to keep the phases of the moon in our minds.
We use the letter a, but in an other shape than here, to find out wether the moon is growing or declining; it stands for 'afnemende maan', for left you see a 'gobba' and right a vertical line.
I hope you understand what I mean.
