In 2015, busuu formed a partnership with McGraw-Hill Education, one of the world’s largest and most respected education companies. We’ve worked together to bring you official certification which validates your mastery of the language you’re learning.
These tests measure how well you understand the core topics in A1, A2, B1 or B2, the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). If you successfully pass a test, you will receive an official level certificate awarded by McGraw-Hill Education.
This is an exclusive feature for Premium users. So, if you are serious about language learning, we recommend you sign up for membership today and give the test a whirl. Keep reading to find out exactly what this means for you, and how this can help you demonstrate your mastery of a new language!
End of level tests
busuu’s team of language experts has been working hard to completely redevelop our existing end of level tests to help you reach a better understanding of your current language level and to demonstrate your skills and hard work.
Some features of the tests include:
- Focus on skills: each test has three sections – Dialogue, Comprehension Skills and Productive Skills
- Vocabulary and Grammar: Each test focuses on the most important vocabulary and grammar topics from the level
- Results are graded: Instead of just ‘pass’ or ‘fail’, students can score from a C- to an A+
- Limited retries: to encourage students to take the tests only when they are ready. Each test can only be taken once in a two-week period.

Why should I take an end of level test?
The test will help you to see if you have mastered the content in one level and if you are ready to start the next. It also provides you with evidence of all your hard work, which you can use when you are talking to employers about your language skills, or simply share on LinkedIn to impress your friends!
What format is the test certificate provided in?
The certificate is emailed to you as a full-colour PDF. If you want, you can print off a physical copy yourself. You can also share your test result on LinkedIn if you take the test via our mobile apps.
When should I take a test?
You should take the test when you believe you have mastered all or most of the topics in a level. For example, if you have studied A1 level before, or have completed A1 on busuu, take the test to see if you are ready for A2 level. You don’t have to complete all the lessons in a level before you take the test.
What does the test measure?
The test measures how well you understand topics in A1, A2, B1 or B2, the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). If you score below 70% on the test, this will count as a fail, and you will need to retake the test in order to pass it and qualify for a grade and a certificate. If you score above 70%, you will receive a grade:
The test is not an official form of certification (unlike, for example, TOEFL or TOEIC) because it is not proctored. However, it is an excellent indicator of your current level of language proficiency. It also can be used to provide evidence of your level and achievements.
How many times can I take a test?
You can take the test as many times as you want. But you must wait at least two weeks between each attempt. This is to encourage you to study for the test and to spend time revising topics if you want to improve your score.
Good luck with your language learning!
