You’ve put in the hard work of learning Japanese – now it’s time to get a Japanese certificate to show how much progress you’ve made. Because you should be proud of your achievements, Busuu makes it easy to get a Japanese language certificate online.
If you want to share your progress with friends, family, school and employers, you could take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). It’s the most well-respected Japanese language certificate in the world – passing the JLPT is a fantastic goal to have.
But the JLPT is also an expensive and stressful paper test that takes place just twice a year at dedicated test centers.
Until you are ready to achieve that goal, a Busuu Premium Japanese Certificate will demonstrate your ability with a CEFR-aligned level that you can share. And you can get certified whenever and wherever you want. Read on to learn how Busuu can help you prove your Japanese language skills.
Why you should get a Japanese language certification

Prove your Japanese knowledge and skills
Learning Japanese is a huge achievement. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced learner, you’ve made amazing progress. Japanese is a notoriously tricky language, so you should be proud of your progress. A Busuu Premium Japanese Certificate shows that your hard work has led to real language skill gains.
Gain the motivation to study even more Japanese
You get a shiny new certificate when you complete a level in Busuu’s Complete Japanese course. Your Busuu Certificate shows how well you’re doing. Because you’ve achieved something, you get a warm, fuzzy feeling. This positive vibe leads to more motivation to learn. You feel great, and you’re ready for the next challenge.
Get a CEFR rating for your Japanese skills
The Central European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the world's most common international language standard. But not all placement tests are aligned to the CEFR yet. Busuu Certificates fill this gap and show your CEFR level. What is a Japanese certification?
A Japanese language certification is a document that shows how good you are at Japanese. Immigration authorities, schools, universities and businesses sometimes require language certificates. If you plan to work or study in Japan, the JLPT is the best certificate to get. It’s the standard way of assessing Japanese language proficiency in Japan.
If you don’t want to work or study in Japan, a CEFR-aligned certificate – like a Busuu Premium Certificate – might be more useful.
How you can get a Japanese certificate to prove your skills
Getting a Japanese certification with Busuu Premium is super simple. All you need to do is study the Complete Japanese course. Let’s look at the process in more detail.
Japanese certifications are available for the Complete Japanese course for levels A1 to B1. This course covers everything from simple self-introductions to using honorific language, with some kanji characters mixed in. You can get a Certificate every time you finish a level in the Complete Japanese course.
Each certificate includes your name, the issue date, your Japanese level according to the CEFR, and a summary of the Japanese skills you’ve gained during the course.
To get a Certificate, first complete all lessons for that level in the Complete Japanese course. When that’s done, take the End of Level Test. This test takes about 15 minutes and reviews what you’ve learned during the course. When you pass, you get your certificate.
If you fail, it isn’t the end of the world. You can try again in two weeks. Review the lessons, practice your skills and prepare to take the test again.
When you get your Certificate, download the PDF and share it to show off your progress.

Why Busuu is the best place to get a Japanese certification
A CEFR level for your Japanese skills
The Busuu Japanese Certificate is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standards. You can take a test every time you finish a level from A1 to B1 on the Complete Japanese course. Pass the test and get your CEFR-aligned Certificate. While some people take the JLPT, which is the world’s most recognized Japanese certification test, it is not officially aligned to the CEFR. Use a Busuu Japanese Certificate to fill this gap.

A stress-free Japanese certification
The JLPT is stressful. And long. And difficult. It takes months to prepare for, is expensive, and is only available twice a year at designated test centers. With Busuu Premium, you can earn a certificate without taking a stressful test. Every time you finish a level in the Complete Japanese course, review what you learned and then take the 15-minute test on your computer or phone. Simple. And if you fail, no biggie. You can try again in two weeks.

An easy-to-share certificate
You should be proud of your progress, so why not share your Japanese level with a Busuu Certificate? Let everyone know how hard you’ve worked. Busuu makes it easy. After passing the test, download your PDF Certificate. Share it on social media. Attach it to emails. Print it out and stick it on your wall. You’ve earned your Certificate, so let the world know!

Four tips to ace your Japanese language certification
Here are four tips to help you pass your End of Level Japanese Tests and get your Certificate.
1) Practice the things you’ve learned
Go through the Complete Japanese course one level at a time. Complete all lessons. Review the vocabulary and grammar. Practice the skills. And use the language in the real world.
Take the words and grammar you’ve learned and use them in communication. Connect with people in the Busuu Community. Chat with friends. Practice with a teacher. There’s no reason to rush. Take as much practice time as needed before the End of Level Test. Practice. Practice again. Then practice some more!
2) Get feedback and then reflect
Real-life practice helps you find your strengths and weaknesses. The feedback you get from this kind of practice is invaluable.
Let’s say you meet up with your Japanese language exchange partner and want to use some of the fancy new honorific language you learned. Try to use this formal language in a cafe with your friend, and you’ll get some funny looks. This feedback from your partner shows you that this level of formality is only appropriate for formal situations.
Or let’s say you learned a bunch of new words, but you’re not sure about their pronunciation. The first time you use one, your friend doesn't understand. This feedback shows that your pronunciation is off. Don’t give up. Try saying it again in a slightly different way. You might nail the pronunciation the second time, and the conversation will keep developing.
These two examples show a major benefit of real-life practice: the immediate feedback it gives. Reflect on this feedback later. What did you do well? What was difficult and why? Answering these questions will help you progress.
3) Address your weaknesses
Practicing and reflecting highlight your strengths and weaknesses. They tell you what you need to improve. Use this information to help you study.
Focus on your weaknesses. Spending time learning things you already know is a huge waste. Instead, identify your weaknesses and then find the lessons from the Complete Japanese course that will help you improve. Study them again. And practice some more.
4) Take the End of Level Test and get your Japanese Certificate
It’s time to take the End of Level Test. It’s a short, stress-free test. Take the test in a quiet place and make sure you’re safe from interruptions.
Whatever the result, be proud of your hard work. If it goes well, you’re on to the next level. If the test is too difficult, keep practicing and try again in two weeks.
